Halloween

A few facts about HALLOWEEN

Halloween is celebrated each year on 31 October. It is also known as All Hallows’ Eve and All Saints’ Eve. It has its origins in a Celtic festival called Samhain. The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the All-Hallows-Even ("evening"),that is, the night before All Hallows Day.

Traditional activities for the day include trick or treating, wearing
costumes, carving jack-o'-lanterns, fancy-dress parties, bonfires, watching horror films and telling scary stories about ghosts, witches, wizards and other creatures. Parents buy pumpkins for their children, who carve scary faces into them and then put a burning candle inside.
